Fixing the AR Goggles allows to to swap between "permanent reality" (the reality that almost the entire world lives in that they see through their goggles) and actual reality, which only those who haven't been implanted or live technology free can see (such as yourself). It's a game with a cyberpunk aesthetic so naturally both the soundtrack and the visual design are fantastic. Accidently breaking his AR/Permanent Reality goggles, Nathan becomes embroiled in a much larger plot involving strange techno cults, underground gangs and what could possibly be far more than he can chew. You play as Nathan, who wakes up one morning only to find his girlfriend missing. You pick up items and use them on other items so that they hopefully combine and solve a puzzle. Frustrating and nonsensical puzzles, frequent backtracking and numerous pixel hunts only further exacerbate what could have been an actually good successor to the Lucasarts of old.Ī point & click adventure. Summary: A point & click adventure/puzzle game whose great soundtrack and visual design is unfortunately marred by a boring, generic story. I feel like I gave the game a really good chance to be good and entertaining, but in the end I can't recommend it. Listen, yeah I spent the 90s listening to my modem whine and screech, but we don't have to spend the entire game pretending that all computing was great then and evil now, or that ASCII was the all time pinnacle of art and communication. There's a self-conscious retro esthetic and ethos. The overall story is complicated and after a while I completely lost track of why exactly I was solving all these puzzles. Most of the NPCs are kind of assholes as well. The game has you commit at least one murder (indirectly), but it's treated as no big deal, a necessary barely evil act to get what you want. The main character is thoroughly unlikeable.

well, because that's what the game wants you to do. Oftentimes there is a perfectly good solution, the game will even tell you it's a good solution, but you have to do something else because. The puzzle difficulty comes from arbitrary and random restrictions and ends up feeling tedious.

I played through a good chunk of the game, then couldn't bring myself to finish it. Perhaps a director's cut like Disco Elysium? I know old point and clickers dont have this, but it will definitely add something extra to the game. The only thing that would make this game even better is voice acting. The graphics or pixelart is beautiful and it really adds to the great atmosphere in the game. It put a smile to my face and the devs are definitely of the oldskool i think :) I am an older gamer myself so i recognize all these little references.

What i absolute love is all the little references to old PC hardware and the WAREZ scene. Most of the times i was stuck because i did not have a particular item which i found only after hours of scanning screens or that when i forgot to check everything again as there are so many variables at certain points in the game. The puzzles are difficult, granted, but not impossible. Definitely a story that could be made for a movie. The story is great and it points to a lot of contemporary things we deal with today. You know, there are so many good things i want to say about this game but I will keep this short. Travelling around the world, he'll have to deal with hardware graveyards, digital archeology, tribes of cryptoshamans, and virtual reality debauchery. Having accidentally broken his custom headset, Nathan is now disconnected and determined to find out what happened to Jay, but he soon finds himself tangled up in an unexpected journey involving Jay's hacker group and a guild of AVR technomancers. Waking up one morning, Nathan discovers that Jay disappeared overnight, but not before leaving a cryptic message on their bathroom mirror. He shares an apartment in the city with his girlfriend Jay, a talented AVR graffiti writer whose drones have been bit-spraying techno-color all over the augmented space in the city. Geared with his custom headset, he is among the few that can still switch AVR off and see reality for what truly is.
